The purpose of the Christian Education (CE) Committee is to provide an effective Christian Education Program so that the Congregation of Woodroffe United Church (WUC) can grow in Christian faith, knowledge, love and understanding and provide a more effective Christian witness. Among its responsibilities are:
Chartering with the Scouts
The Church School is located on the second floor. It follows the Whole People of God curriculum. It is a lectionary based curriculum that connects education and worship and uses the same Bible passages as those used in the service. Classes meet from the first Sunday after Labour Day to the end of May. The Church School has four classes:
Kindergarten to Grade 1
Grades 2 and 3
Grades 4 to 6
Children gather in the Sanctuary at 10:00AM and leave for their classrooms following the Children’s time in the Service. Children are invited to remain for the whole church service, and participate actively in church services, as the occasion arises. Children are encouraged to understand the meaning of holy communion by participating in some communion services.
The Nursery is located beside the Church School on the second floor and is staffed by volunteers. Parents with children too young to attend Church School can safely leave their children in the care of the volunteers or are also welcome to stay with their children in the Nursery.
The Library is located in the Narthex. It was originally created in 1963 to provide support to the Church School Teachers. The Library subcommittee is responsible for selecting books for the library, preparing book reviews for the Congregation and maintain the library. There are approximately 875 books in the library and at any time there are about 25 books out on loan.
