Many of you will remember the MacLean’s article published a month or two ago whose authors determined that primarily evangelic, fundamental churches were growing these days. In response to the article, Bradley Morrison wrote several online articles that talk about ways for liberal churches like WUC to build our numbers. Copies are in the Narthex.
The R-team will start to aggregate information from the conversations we had on Feb. 5– many thanks to Beth Junkins for tabulating all that data. The R-team meet on Feb. 28 to plan next steps. See our project plan in The Uniter.
Keep the ideas coming!!
On February 5, 2017, following the regular worship service, all congregants are encouraged to attend a Congregational Town Hall Meeting entitled "Starting Our Journey Toward Revitalization". Enjoy a chili lunch and have conversation about Woodroffe and its ministry in the Woodroffe community.Join Bob Richards, the Revitalization Team and the rest of the congregation for some lunch. Learn about WUC’s challenges in the coming years and how we can all make a difference. There will be a special meal and a table for children so that all may attend.
Luncheon helpers are needed setup, cook, serve and clean up. Please contact Sue Smarkala if you can help.
2017 will be an exciting year for Canada, in its 150th year, and also, for Woodroffe United Church. What does that mean, you say? Well, here’s the scoop!
At a special meeting on December 12, 2016, Council approved a challenging new Revitalization Project. Woodroffe United Church, like many others, is faced with declining numbers of attendees; more than half of us are 60 years of age or older. This project creates the opportunity for the congregation to look back on our considerable achievements, consider new avenues for growth as a church in our community and chart a course for a viable, renewed future. Woodroffe will work with a consultant from EDGE - a United Church of Canada partner for congregational development. All congregants are warmly encouraged to participate in the journey towardrenewed meaning for Woodroffe.
The scripture that guides our revitalization journey is Matthew 22:38 - Love God and Love your neighbour as yourself.
