The purpose of Woodroffe United Church is to bring alive the basic meaning of life as revealed in Jesus Christ so that members and adherents will continue to develop and grow in Christian faith and understanding and have Christ's example reflected in their daily lives.
This broad statement of purpose gives rise to three objectives:
Spiritual Growth: to promote the continued spiritual growth of all members and adherents of the Congregation by providing a suitable place of worship and competent religious instruction, guidance and support.
Local Outreach: to follow in Chirst's footsteps by reaching out with compassion to all those who live in the local community.
World Outreach: to demonstrate our concern for the world community by actively supporting the Mission and Service program of the United Church of Canada.
The following goals describe what must be accomplished to attain these objectives.
Providing regular services of worship with clergy and congregation working together to guide and encourage growth in Christian love and service and the search for a deeper understanding of the Christian faith and mission.
Providing programs of instruction which foster the development of Christian attitudes applicable to all life's activities in all age groups.
Providing a warm welcome to all who enter the church seeking Christian fellowship and maintaining caring contact with all members and adherents.
Providing and maintaining a place of worship which reflects our love and respect for God as revealed in Jesus Christ.
Providing opportunities for all members and adherents to exercise their stewardship responsibilities by participating in the programs and activities of the church.
Providing guidance and counselling on the long range plans of the Church.
Helping each member and adherent to gain a deeper understanding of an compassion for, the needs of others by encouraging them to participate in , and contribute to, a program of local outreach.
Providing assistance such as food, clothing, shelter and transportation to those in need.
Providing financial assistance in an emergency on a short term basis until government assistance is available.
Providing moral support in the form of counselling, advice, companionship, understanding and sympathetic listening.
Cooperating with neighbourhood social action agencies as appropriate.
Developing an awareness of the conditions which exist in many of the world's communities by an active program of instruction in the work of our Missions and World Development Organizations.
Providing financial assistance on a regular basis to the world community through the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada.
Participating in special programs of assistance.
Taking an active interest in national issues facing the church by contributing our ideas, suggestions, and recommendations.
