Woodroffe United Church ... we are not alone, we live in God's world.
Beloved Christ, as we survey the terrors of the cross, we ask for your blessing.
Strengthen us to face the very worst in our lives and in the world--hatred, greed, lust for power, violence, oppression and fear.
There are so many things to be lamented.
We lament the insidious destruction of our planet for future generations.
We lament out inability to truly love and accept one another as is commanded of us.
We lament the horrors inflicted on men, women and children to ensure the status, wealth and power of others.
We lament the misogyny in the world that keeps half of the world's population in constant vigilance to protect their rights.
We lament our judgment of people who are different from us, causing others to be afraid and harsh words.
We lament the present state of uncertainty in today's world--especially in North Korea, Syria, Russia and the USA.
We lament our reluctance to accept the position of indigenous people in Canada and other countries.
We lament that we cannot find better ways to share relationships with God in the world.
We long for love, belonging and justice.
We long for total peace, happiness, serenity, perfect health, right choices and continued unity.
We long for God's love to transform our often cold hearts.
We long for better times when we are set right with God.
We long for justice and compassion for all, for recognition of our common humanity and for the human spirit of the universe.
We long for a time of gentleness and inspiration for all the peoples and creatures on this earth.
Help us to bring your truth, grace, hope, wisdom and love to the world--the greatest of these being love.
For your love has the power to overcome and destroy all of the injustice that brought you to the cross and us to your side. May it be so. Amen.
