Here is an update on Stewardship activities, completed, underway, and planned, since the last Uniter. We are very busy enabling us all to be good stewards of our resources.
As you may be aware, the major renovations over the past two years are paying off through more use of space by outside groups. We still have four washrooms, which desperately need renovation (see Joe Smarkala’s note). One generous donor has given us $10,000, enabling us to start the renovation, but we need a further $14,000. Let’s work together to match this person’s generosity - all amounts gratefully received! We have launched a project, Take Care of Our Sunday Home. Please watch the thermometer in the Narthex that tracks the amount raised to date.
Poinsettias were once again popular before Christmas, and I hope yours are still blooming well, brightening this long winter; these sales added $300 to our coffers. The recent sales of frozen berries (which will be enjoyed by many) netted over $300 for the church. And the HST Auction will be taking place on March 2; we hope you attended this fun and successful fundraiser.
Please put Saturday, May 31, 2014, on your calendars. We are planning a brand new idea: a Baking, Books and Buds sale. We will focus on things, tied to the spring and planting season, that are very popular with our congregation: baked goods, books (for your summer reading) and plants/gardening items. You may also see back bacon on a bun again this year. We will be asking for support from the congregation, for baked goods; books; and perennials, annuals, house plants, plant pots or gardening tools. More information will be provided as the time approaches.
Finally, thank you for the many suggestions we have received through the suggestion box. As they arrive, they are forwarded to the appropriate committees for response. If you have any ideas for fundraising that you feel could benefit the church, please let anyone on the Stewardship Committee know. We could always use some new ideas and energy to put them into action. Current members are Tricia Curtis, Shirley Hockin, Lauren Carson, Sue and Joe Smarkala, Bob Walkington and Matt Gallinger.
COVID note: Although in person services have resumed, some church meetings may have alternate locations or virtual arrangements.
